Julianne Duvall

DIRECTOR OF EXECUTIVE COACHING PROGRAM

Julianne’s breadth and variety of her administrative background speak to her passion for continual professional development and her deep love for the important work of independent schools. A trusted leader, Julianne is well-regarded for creating student-centered school cultures of innovation and collaboration.

After graduating from the College of William and Mary in government and then earning her M.Ed in educational leadership from the University of Illinois, Julianne began her educational career as an elementary school classroom teacher in a Maryland public school system. She quickly moved into a team leader position and also served as a new teacher mentor.

Building upon additional education at Southeastern Louisiana University in health education and school counseling, Julianne spent a decade supporting, advising, and creating counseling programs in independent schools, first at Episcopal High School of Baton Rouge, then at Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, and at Christchurch School in Virginia. A firm believer in a comprehensive approach to youth development and mental health services, she also consulted with schools as part of the Episcopal Church Schools of the Diocese of Virginia on conflict resolution, peer counseling, human growth and development, life skills, and crisis response.

Throughout her tenure in schools, Julianne has accumulated 30 years in curriculum development, instructional leadership, professional development, and teacher mentoring. She was appointed Academic Dean and then Assistant Head of School at Chesapeake Academy in Virginia before becoming the Director of Development and 11th Head of School at CA. During her time at Chesapeake Academy, she redesigned the curriculum, implemented a new Arts & Innovation program, established a new mission statement, and directed multiple strategic plans with the Board of Trustees.

Julianne has led successful annual, major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaigns, and earned her Certification as a Fund Raising Executive in 2022. She has overseen multiple accreditations as a senior administrator and Head of School.

Julianne has presented at local, state, regional, and national conferences on many topics including strategic planning, effective board work, student leadership development, curriculum design, differentiated instruction, and faculty professional learning.

Upon announcing her “graduation from Chesapeake Academy,” Julianne was asked to serve on the search committee for her successor and was able to work with The Education Group in that process. Through that service, she was able to witness up close the commitment, energy, enthusiasm, expertise, and integrity of TEG. That experience solidified her desire to join such a mission-driven firm dedicated to personal service. She is excited to support independent schools and their leaders.

Julianne’s three adult children are all in the education field in some way — her son is a science teacher at the Fessenden School outside Boston, her daughter is in a Ph.D. program in public health at Vanderbilt, and her youngest is an international studies major at Virginia Commonwealth University, with the goal of teaching abroad. Julianne loves to travel, kayak, paint, and spend time with her family. A fan of stand-up comics and musicals, she sees as many shows annually as she can.
