Harry V. McKay

EDUCATION LEADERSHIP COACH / CONSULTANT


The Education Group welcomes our newest consultant, Harry V. McKay, Jr. He brings forty-plus years’ wealth of educational leadership and professional experience, both in the United States and internationally. Graduating with a B.S. In Mathematics from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, he received his M.Ed. from the University of Pittsburgh with a comprehensive specialization in Educational, Instructional, and Curriculum Supervision. While in graduate school, he taught high school mathematics at Pittsburgh’s metropolitan Taylor Allderdice School.

Directly after receiving his M.Ed., he served as the Assistant Principal of the Kadena Elementary School, a division of the Department of Defense Overseas Dependent Schools System, on the island of Okinawa, Japan.  Over the next twenty years, he served as Headmaster at four independent schools, including The Baldwin School of Puerto Rico, a K 12 co-ed independent International School in Bayamon; The Good Hope School, a co-ed PK through 12th grade international school in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands; the Cathedral School for Boys, an Episcopal K-8 school located on Nob Hill in San Francisco, CA; and at St. Edmund’s Academy in Pittsburgh, PA, an Episcopal preK-8 co-ed independent day school.

In 1995 he became Director of the Master of Arts in Teaching Program at Pittsburgh's Chatham University, a position of supervision, educational planning, and program development for Intern Teachers. From 1998-2014 he served as Head of School at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal School in Saratoga, CA, a preK-8, coed independent school in the heart of the Silicon Valley. Today, Mr. McKay holds the honorific title of Head of School Emeritus at Saint Andrew’s. 

Since receiving his certificate in Evidence-Based Coaching for Educational Leadership from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, CA, in 2014, Mr. McKay has worked as an Educational Leadership Coach/Consultant for Senior Administrators, Heads, and Boards of Trustees of independent schools.  For the past three years, he has also served as a Leadership Coach for The New Teacher Center in Santa Cruz, CA, working with senior public school administrators to identify and enhance their leadership skills. 

Over the years of his professional career, Mr. McKay has also served as a Trustee of the California Association of Private School Organizations; Vice President of the California Association of Independent Schools; a Founding Board Member of The Neighborhood Academy in Pittsburgh, PA; and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Caribbean Association of Independent Schools. In addition, he has held various positions within Arts Organizations, UNICEF, Rotary Clubs, and other professional and social organizations.
